Music Notes from John Behnke

New Music – A New Season!

For most of us, the summer months, June, July and August are a time to refresh and recharge.  Part of that recharging is the joy of looking through new music and deciding on what new exciting pieces our choirs will play from September through May.   So for AGEHR Publishing, May being on the doorstep of the summer, is when we “show off” – unveil our new music.

My goal each year as Music Editor for AGEHR Publishing is to try and provide something for every member of the Handbell Musicians of America.  Some members ring or direct in large 5-6 octave choirs; some ring in smaller 2 octave choirs.   Some ring Level 1 or 2 music, while some ring Level 4, 5, or 6 music.   So I strive to meet the needs of our entire membership by having something for everyone.

2017-Cover-AGEHR-1

Coming to your mailbox very soon will be our NEW 2017 HANDBELL MUSIC promotional booklet. This booklet contains a CD so you can listen to the pieces, and 3-4 pages of score to see what the music looks like.

So fanfare, please!  It’s time to unveil our great NEW 2017 HANDBELL MUSIC.

One comment I’ve heard which gives me great joy is that people have said that they see more “new names” with AGEHR Publishing than any other bell publisher.

This year you will see for the first time, the name of Phoebe T. T. Yeung from Hong Kong.   Her piece, “Quickening Spirit” AG35359, leads off our recording and is absolutely stunning.

Plus you will see Mitchell Eithun’s first original handbell piece. Mitchell is the son of well-known handbell composer, Sandra Eithun.   And there are two pieces by Alex Guebert, a new, young composer from California. It gives us at AGEHR Publishing great pleasure to be publishing the work of young composers who are the present and future of handbells and handchimes.

So, are you ready to crack open our 2017 promotional booklet and take a listen?  I hope so.  It is filled with new and exciting music for you and your handbell/handchime choir.

If your booklet has not arrived yet… CLICK HERE to listen to Phoebe T. T. Yeung’s piece, Quickening Spirit, AG35359, which leads off our booklet.

It will give you a foretaste of what is to come.   Thanks so much for choosing ringer-tested music from AGEHR Publishing.

Until next month,
John Behnke, Music Editor
