Justin Wooten
Candidate for At-Large Board Member

It was a cold, dark, January evening in 1988. Justin came into this world with a full beard and ready to sling some bass bells. From the time he was a young (and rather large) lad, he was playing sports, lifting heavy things around the farm, and also playing a bit of music in his spare time. As he grew bigger, so did his need to pick up bigger bells. That need has never left him. He has rang, subbed, and taught bass bells all over the United States and Canada for many bronze groups and events including HMA National Seminars, Distinctly Bronze East and West, Zenith Handbell Ensemble, Area 1 Bronze Choir, LA Bronze Handbells, just to name a few. He currently rings with Charlotte Bronze Handbell Ensemble under the baton of Brian Childers as well as serves as the General Manager and President-Elect. Justin’s normal, everyday job is quite the contrast to his handbell life. He is a fitness trainer and runs a fitness studio in his small town of Union Grove, North Carolina where he spends all day bro-ing out with gym bros and talking about very important subject matter such as protein intake, the importance of glute health, and how much you can bench. In his spare time, you can find Justin not having time for spare time. Sleep, eat, lift, eat, ring, REPEAT.
What is your vision for Handbell Musicians of America?
I see HMA pushing forward into the future in order to energize, build, and maintain the membership of HMA. I would love to see HMA lead the way to get “eyes on bells and bells in hands” of people all over the United States using every means necessary.
What expertise and experience will you bring to Handbell Musicians of America board of directors?
One area of expertise I have is the area of fitness. I would love to see a push with handbell musicians and their diet, health, and fitness to be able to ring handbells at high levels for as long as possible.
