Spaces Still Open for Reaching For Bronze in February 2022

Have you wanted to apply for Distinctly Bronze but worry you are not yet at the skill level to be accepted? Then this is the event for you.

This ZERO-PRESSURE event is scheduled concurrently with Distinctly Bronze East and will give participants the opportunity to learn three pieces from the DB East repertoire list under the direction of master teacher and conductor Kathryn Jurado and perform them alongside the DB musicians on their final concert. In addition, the Reaching for Bronze choirs will prepare and perform two pieces of their own.

During the event, instruction will be offered in building skills in treble, bass, and battery techniques, as well as improving all aspects of musicianship.

Visit our website now to learn all about the event and secure your spot. Do you have a number of people from one ensemble who would like to attend together? Contact events manager Marie Clyatt-Larson for group discount possibilities.

AGEHR Music Publishing News

The Lorenz Corporation has long been the sole distributor of AGEHR music publications. As a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, Lorenz filed for bankruptcy, primarily to enable the downsizing of their company. As part of the bankruptcy agreement, Lorenz has informed numerous organizations/publishers that they will no longer be able to act as the distributor of their music catalog. This group includes AGEHR Publishing.

Brian Childers, HMA Music Advisor, and I have been working to find a new landing spot for AGEHR Publishing. We are excited to announce our extensive music catalog will be relocated to Jeffers Handbell Supply and JW Pepper. As a purchaser of music, you will not notice a change. AGEHR music will continue to be available from Lorenz through the end of November. After that, visiting the AGEHR portion of the HMA Website will offer links to both Jeffers and JW Pepper. Looking ahead, we are working to update our catalog so we can offer PDFs and Recordings to make your shopping quicker and easier. AGEHR music will continue to be available and provide excellent resources for the next generation of ringers.

Brian’s Music Notes

with Brian Childers

In Paradisum

Gabriel Faure; arr. Arnold Sherman

Level 3-
3-5 Octaves Handbells (AG35195)
Organ/Full Score (AG35196)
Harp and Cello Parts (AG301882AG)

This setting of Faure’s ‘In Paradisum’ is set by Arnold Sherman. It is scored for 3-5 octaves of bells, with organ, cello, and harp. While the bell score may be played beautifully by itself, consider adding the additional instrumental parts to really bring Gabriel Faure’s work to life! At only 63 measures in length, this light-textured bell setting will be a quick learn for your ringers and a stunning addition to concerts or worship services.

Writing about his well-known requiem, Faure once said “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest…It has been said that my Requiem does not express the fear of death and someone has called it a lullaby of death. But it is thus that I see death: as a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than as a painful experience. …As to my Requiem, perhaps I have … instinctively sought to escape from what is thought right and proper, after all the years of accompanying burial services on the organ! I know it all by heart. I wanted to write something different.”
