Handbells/Handchimes in Education
Description
Handbells and Hand Chimes can be a valuable tool for learning and teaching in a variety of music education settings. This elective will explore the applications of these instruments in K-12 music classes, including general music, performance ensembles and theory-based classes. Topics will include blending hand chimes with the Orff Schulwerk approach as well as with the World Music Drumming curriculum, including elements of the Kodaly method (using a child-development approach to sequencing and learning), the Dalcroze method, and the Suzuki method. Students will establish an assessment program for performance-based ensembles.
